August Update
August 2007 was an eventful month in our household. August 1 marked the first anniversary of the day when Tina from our adoption agency called us with those words I’ll remember forever, “This is your call…” Chet and I excitedly switched to the phone in our home office so we could be near the computer to see the face of our little girl for the very first time. That was an enormously special day in our lives—one we will never forget. We couldn’t wait to call and email all of our family and friends with our exciting news. What a special time to remember!
Then, on August 6, 2007, Mary Joyce’s mei-mei arrived. Barbara Katherine arrived early on Monday morning, weighing in at 7 lbs., 6 oz., and 19 inches long. So far, Mary Joyce has been a good big sister, with minimal jealous moments, although they do happen. She loves to give Katherine kisses, and will try to rock her (a bit too enthusiastically sometimes) in her bouncy chair or swing. Mary Joyce also likes to hand me Katherine’s pacifier and her bottle, whether Katherine needs them right then or not. She is a good helper. :-)
Mary Joyce is also growing like the proverbial weed. She seems to be outgrowing everything in her closet—clothes, shoes, everything… She has even gone up a diaper size. Our little girl is becoming less of a baby and more of a big girl every day. She is doing well feeding herself with a spoon or a fork, and we have moved her out of her high chair and into a booster chair at the table. Her receptive language is very good. She understands pretty much anything we say to her and follows directions well, most of the time. (She is an almost 2-year old, so I have to say “most of the time” as opposed to all the time.) She helps to brush her own teeth; although Mama still brushes first to make sure it is done thoroughly. She is also showing some interest in potty training, so hopefully that will happen in the near future. (Getting one out of diapers would be really nice!) Finally, at the end of this month, Mary Joyce got her first big girl haircut. She behaved very well, and it looks adorable on her.
In the pictures below, I have included the summer photo collage of our travel group girls. It actually should have gone on the July post, but I forgot to include it. All of them have grown so much in the past year!
Going from no children to two children in less than a year has been an experience, but we love our two little gifts from God so much! He has truly blessed us with the opportunity to parent these 2 little angels.
