January Update

January has been a month of firsts for Mary Joyce.  She met some more extended family members at our annual post-Christmas gathering with Chet’s mom’s side of the family.  And on the home front, there have been two big advances—our little girl is now walking, and she has started self-feeding.

On the movement front, crawling is still Mary Joyce’s preferred method of getting from one place to another.  She is a speed crawler and moves very fast.  However, she is gaining more and more confidence in her walking ability every day and will soon be running all over the house, we’re sure.

Self-feeding is something that once she started with it, it is like she has always been doing it.  Right now, she is still just doing finger foods—no utensils yet.  We can only give her a couple of pieces at a time because our little “neat freak” does not like for her high chair tray to be dirty.  If it gets too cluttered for her liking, then whatever food or crumbs are on there end up all over the floor.

Mary Joyce, like most babies, is fascinated by ladies’ necklaces.  She always is reaching for them and pulling on them, if she is given the opportunity.  Recently, we have noticed that she takes her plastic links when they are joined together in a circle and wears them like a necklace.  She puts them on all by herself and wears them while she plays.  Maybe there’s a little bit of “girly-girl” in our tomboy after all.

We are having a wonderful time with our precious little girl and love her more every day, if that is even possible.  She is an amazing and precious gift from God.
