May Update
May was an interesting month in our household, and as you read our updates for May and June, you will see why we are so far behind on updating Mary Joyce’s website.
One of the most special things about May 2007 was that this was my first Mother’s Day with Mary Joyce at home with us. This brought an entirely new perspective on that holiday. The anticipation of the last couple of years had passed, and now our little girl was actually in our arms. You can’t get a better Mother’s Day gift than that.
Also in the month of May, Chet was voted in as pastor of a church in Florida. We will miss our friends and church family in Georgia, but we also know that this is where God has called us. We are looking forward to what He has in store for our family and our ministry.
While we were in Florida, Mary Joyce was able to go to the beach for the first time. Unfortunately, the camera batteries died at a very inopportune moment, so we don’t have any pictures from that visit. She actually was afraid of the water at the time. It was pretty windy, and the Atlantic Ocean is pretty big. I can see why it would be scary for a little one.
Our friends, Jen and Mike, gave us a nice going-away supper, which we thoroughly enjoyed. (You can look at the pictures and see how much Mary Joyce enjoyed the meal!) Mary Joyce and I were also able to join our China adoption lunch crew for one last time before we had to load up and head out. We will miss getting together with everyone regularly, but we’re doing our best to stay in touch.
The last part of the month of May was filled with packing up our house as we prepared to move. Moving is always an experience. Moving with a 17 month old and while extremely pregnant is REALLY an experience. Mary Joyce was very helpful in packing boxes. She would either add random items to the boxes or she would take items out, depending on her feeling at the moment. It was never dull, but I will say that most of our packing was done while she was napping or after she was in bed at night. :-)
On Memorial Day, we took a break from our packing and drove up to Madison for a family get-together. Mary Joyce was able to meet more extended family members for the first time. It was a beautiful day and allowed for a nice break from moving boxes.
