March 3, 2008

Today has been an interesting day. But I will start by finishing up from last night. After I sent my update, I found Jeff with the babies again, round 2 of the day. :) He has the same smiley guy as the night before, and Jeff has taught the boy how to coo. The baby is so very quiet about it, but tries soooo hard. I had a little girl who had a terrible cold but did fall asleep in my arms.

Monday--at 8am I went to our social worker's office to request we get Kayli today, but she wasn’t in until 9am. Then we tried calling the boys (and you weren’t home; I wonder where you were), and then we did some last minute shopping. I picked up some Korean cookies for the boys and the plant I need to give the foster mother (it is believed that she is giving me something alive, so I must do the same for her), and then Jeff and I walked to find where he will get our dinner tonight, hoping that I will be in the room with Kayli. Thankfully our Social Worker called me right at 9am and agreed it was a good idea to get her today and keep her since she does suffer from "stranger anxiety." That seems like a strong word to use, but we will see tonight.) Then we went shopping again since I figured out that I don’t have enough diapers for 2 days--augh! See, over packing would have been a good thing, but the market didn’t have the size I needed. I ended up asking the family we met from Washington if I could have some (she had offered the day before; it's her 3rd adoption, and she always over-packs) Then at 11am we had the honor to meet Senior Dr. Kim (he is 94 yrs old). He started Eastern Social Welfare 35 years ago and was such a wonderful man. The thanked us for adopting an orphan. We then met with his daughter, also Dr. Kim, who explained the Korean history and how the wars affected the country which lead to thousands of orphans, and Koreans not being able to feed their own, let alone adopt more. We were then invited to a Korean lunch in the dining hall. It was my favorite, Bedim and seaweed soup. It was better than the other day. We learned that they feed 60 people a day there (all the staff and unwed mothers also). Then we decided to rest in our room since we are sure we will not sleep tonight with Kayli, and tomorrow we leave for home and know we probably won't sleep much then either. We won t be able to rock any other babies tonight, just our own. Jeff assured me he isn’t "babied out" :)

I have to go finish baby proofing the room now, we get her in 45 minutes--Yahoo!! Finally, Finally!!!!!!! I doubt I will be able to write until we are home--which will be after 4/5 due to flying.

This is an amazing experience, very hard to describe, and I hope anyone who ever considers picking up their child from their country does it.

Evan and Trenton, only 2 more days, and we cant wait to see your faces at the airport. Daddy and I need some big hugs! And if you guys think you can handle a 24 hour travel day, we will all visit Korea in the future-

Love,
Mom and Dad and Kayli
