Our Story

Tom and I met at Central Michigan University in 1982 and began dating in 1984.  A few years later on September 25, 1987, we were married.  During the next five years we worked hard on our careers and traveled.  On January 8, 1992, we were truly blessed with the birth of our son, Nicholas. He has been the light of our lives!

Fast forward 13 years.  We had a solid plan: Nick’s college was almost funded; we were enjoying some new freedoms now that he was so self-sufficient, and early retirement was something we both wanted.  Well, so much for the plan…God had another one for us.

In January of 2005, we made the decision to adopt a daughter from China. Tom and I believe that since the beginning of time, God knew we had a daughter in China…we just needed to be patient.  On September 25, 2006 (our 19th wedding anniversary) we received the call from our agency that our family was matched with a precious baby girl from Guangdong Province.  We were in awe the next day when we received her pictures.  Our daughter, Xin Hong Ying, was born November 18, 2005. Once we saw her beautiful face, we decided to name her Amelia Elizabeth-Ying.

When Amelia was home for a year, God once again placed adoption on our hearts.  We are blessed with two amazing children and have decided to add a third to the mix. After much research we decided to pursue an adoption from Taiwan and chose Journeys of the Heart as our agency. We began the home study and paper chasing process in August of 2007 and were added to our agency’s wait list on December 24, 2007.

After a loooong eight months of waiting (although short by most international adoption standards), we received our referral of a beautiful baby girl on August 15, 2008.  She was born on July 2, 2008, and her Taiwanese name is Lui Pei-Shan. We can’t wait to bring her home. We anticipate traveling in early 2009 to welcome Pei-Shan into our family.  Please join Tom, Nicholas, Amelia and I on our journey to meet our baby girl in Taiwan!

Chinese New Year 2007. Next year I'll have a sister to help celebrate.

We need help from a little one to get these eggs dyed next Easter.

Nicholas is a strong young man, surely he can hold two sisters!

Family in waiting!

"Pei-Shan, where are you?"
