September Update

"Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever."--Psalm 136:26

Alayna continues to be a joy to all of us.  Her personality is blossoming everyday and her sweet smiles are abundant.  She is a true blessing to all of us.  Physically, we are at a standstill this month, which seems unusual and somewhat worrisome.  (We’ll see what the doctor says at her 15 month well-check in October.)  She has not grown taller in the last 3+ months and maybe has gained a pound--she is almost 15 months and 9 month clothes are the perfect length.  It is actually funny watching her walk and run around.  She is quite mobile but at 28 inches seems way to short to be moving as she does.  (I guess you’d have to see her to understand my amusement!)  Alayna also has not gotten any new teeth recently; she is stuck at 6.  She is great at letting us brush them, though…now if only Amelia would cooperate so nicely.  Finally, she has not said any clear words other than mamamamama and once in awhile an uhhh oh.  She does, however, understand everything we tell her, follows directions very well and shakes her head yes or no to most questions.

Family Update:

Nick is in full swing at school, enjoying the beginning of his senior year.  Tom and I attended a nice senior mass and brunch at school to bless the boys and kick off their final year.

He is already jumping into his extracurricular activities with commitments to being president of the drama club, a Latin club officer, National Honor Society activities and some school leadership projects.  He is also performing in Mercy High School's fall play.  This all keeps him busy, but sadly not as much family time as I’d like.

Amelia, well she is our little Amelia.  School is going well for her; she just loves it and is thrilled when she gets to bring homework home.  She says science is her favorite “subject” but can’t seem to wait for music days.  She is constantly singing, and we are always surprised when she knows the words to yet another song.

We agreed to sign her up for soccer this fall, as she is extremely active and coordinated.  Tom decided that it would be his Saturday morning time with Amelia and committed to taking her.  (I committed to outfitting her in adorable shoes, socks and matching ball!)  Well, she looked great…and that was about it.  She had Tom carry her to the field week one, and it never got any better.  As he puts it, she is not coachable.  We saw the same thing with swim lessons.  I think I will have to find a sport that is coached by strict nuns; after all she tows the line beautifully at school.  If there is an inch of wiggle room, she’ll find it!

On September 25th, Tom and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary.  I find it amusing that after 22 years we have a 1 year old to raise.  Wouldn’t have it any other way, Alayna!  The 25th was also the three year anniversary of Amelia’s referral from China.  I still remember being at Nick’s cross country meet with my mom and getting that phone call.  What an anniversary gift that year!

Until next month….

This is one of my favorite photos. Amelia took it, and Alayna looks just precious.
