April Update:
One Month Since We Met Hannah"If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them."--From "Children Learn What They Live" by Dorothy Law Nolte
When I was a child, I spent every Friday at the doctor's office getting my allergy shots--our family doctor had the poem, "If Children Learn What They Live" posted on the wall in the room where I got my shots--I committed that poem to memory, and this particular portion seems all too fitting to our bringing Hannah home.
We are doing our best to ensure that Hannah knows we are her family and that she is safe and loved. It is what any family does with a new family member, but Hannah's past circumstances require we be even more attuned to creating a safe haven for our little one. And we think it is going just great. Hannah has bonded to each of us differently, but certainly beautifully. At first, Rob was her main squeeze (but, of course) and now, she is seeking Mama regularly. I felt instant connection with her, and I can honestly say that I feel very blessed to have so much love to give these wonderful little girls. God's plan is so perfect.
The big question, so how are Emily and Hannah?--Two peas in a pod would sum it up perfectly. Now, it has it's moments, but we have been really surprised by the way these two children adore one another. They truly enjoy interacting, and Emily looooves showing Hannah how to do different things.
Hannah is extremely anxious to get moving--she has been scooting a lot, and she is happiest when standing and works really hard to cruise. She has genuine interest in toys and just loves to be sung to. We suspect they sang to her a lot in China. It is interesting, a lot of Em's friends have siblings about Hannah's age, and it is obvious she likes hanging out with them. She imitates everything, so she is very observant and always quietly going about gaining something new. She chatters with other babies and like her big sister, has proven to be nosy!!
We have been blessed to have wonderful pictures from her orphanage and the caregivers did a fabulous job filling in her baby book. Much of that we will never disclose though; we respect that parts of Hannah's life are a closed chapter until she decides differently. We have loved telling our side of the story; however, she may view certain aspects of her life as private.
I could go on and on; Hannah has changed a lot in the three weeks she has lived in her new home, but we recognize nobody has the time to read the volumes I could write about our family.
As always, thanks so much for your support and love as we have navigated adding a fourth little person to our family. Emily and Hannah are a joy and we are so glad to have you share the journey with us.
Love,
Heather, Rob, Emily and Hannah
