"Be not afraid my little one, your head up to the sky.
The journey is a steady one - on that you can rely.

Trust the one who holds your hand; take a risk, take a stand.
Scoot ahead -- you're almost there; live your life with holy flair.

Look to those who have gone before, who have paved the way
To help you soar. You're on the edge -- there is so much more!

Be not afraid my little one, your head up to the sky.
The journey is a ready one and you're about to fly!"

--Patsy Clairmont, 2003

Well, they arrived in Beijing, safe and sound. I have not spoken with Rob, but we have emailed and the pictures are great. He said he ate duck, and it "was good!" They ate in a lovely restaurant called Peking Duck; I suppose the duck is their specialty! :-)

It was comforting to see him surrounded by so many friendly faces. Rob was anxious to meet Mrs. Li (the Chinese facilitator for Welcome House) and from the pictures, they became fast friends. We have had the privilege of geting better acquainted with two families in our travel group, Terilyn and Steve and David and Kim. Terilyn and Steve are in many of the pictures, and I was thrilled to see the safe arrival of David and Will (mom, Kim and little brother, Harry, are home in Virginia - just as Emily and I are home in Pennsylvania).

Without doubt, we will be forever grateful to Jim (Rob's travel buddy)--many thanks to Gerry, Jamie, Christy, Brie, and Josh for sharing him with us during this time. Your family has blessed us at a time of great joy - thank you friends. (Gerry - we are thinking of you in Houston!)

Jim pointed out all the bikes--people get around differently in China. Beijing looks very pretty at night, but the daytime proves the smoggy, dense air and the grayness of the area (maybe it was raining but many other photos we have seen look the same). Jim also mentioned the Chinese people were excited to pose with the tourists! There is a cute picture there of Will Swales and Cooper's little girl with some folks in front of the hotel.

Thanks for following - according to the itinerary they will be seeing the Great Wall this weekend and then traveling Sunday to Nanchang (Hannah, here comes Daddy!). I will post as often as I get information.

Love,
Heather
