September 12, 2008

Today we visited a tea house, and we tried many different kinds of tea. I purchased Jade a very small teapot as a memento of her Province.

We spent the remainder of the day hanging out at the hotel. Megan went swimming. We have packed all of our suitcases, and they will be picked up tomorrow morning around 10:30AM so that we can leave for the airport at 11:00AM.

We received all of Jade's documents for the China side of the adoption today, and she has her own official People's Republic of China passport!

We are looking forward to our trip to Guangzhou tomorrow so we can complete the American side of the adoption. The United States Embassy is in Guangzhou, so that is why we must travel there.

Everyone is still healthy. Grandma isn't getting much sleep. Jade sleeps like a dream - sometimes up to 12 hours a night. She is pulling on her ears, so we are hoping this is not a sign of an ear infection. We will have a doctor look at her in Guangzhou. Phil is busy taking videos to document the trip. We can't wait to watch them when we get home.

Goodnight from Kunming !

Note to Emily:

Hi Emily,

I saw a man on the street today with three boxes of baby puppies. When we adopted Megan - dogs were for the dinner plate. We are told that this is changing in China and many families are able to afford a pet, and so these puppies will be sold as pets. We have seen quite a few pets on the streets of China, but all are small dogs the size of Rex. We have seen some cats as well, but they don't look very healthy.

We bought you a "chop" today. This is a Jade stamp that has your name on it ,as well as your name in Chinese characters. You use it as a stamp to put your name on paper. In China, this is a legal signature.

You were born in the year of the Tiger, and so your chop is made of jade and has a tiger on it.

Love you!
-Mom
