Hello From China
Today was the orphanage visit. Terry stayed at the hotel, and I went to Yingtan with two other dads and Louise, a good friend I have made during this adoption. Terry gets a kick out of Louise's husband Rob--he's a really nice guy.
Okay, to the orphanage visit... When we got there they gave us fruit--grapes and watermelon. The grapes were very good. After we ate some fruit, the director took us to see our babies' rooms. Katie's room was shared with five other babies. Her crib was small, made of wood and wood panels with no mattress. That broke my heart to see where she was while in the orphanage. I took lots of pictures for katie when she gets a lot older to see. After we got through taking pictures, they took us into a room where there were five babies. Two of these babies were special needs babies. My heart just broke. They told us there were 60 plus young babies there, but would not let us see them--that scared me why we coudn't see them.
They went three months with NO water. The nannies had to pack the water for the babies on their backs so they would be able to make bottles. My heart broke again to hear this. Like I said, I took lots of photos.
After that they took us and showed us where are babies were found. Katie was in a building on stairs of what they called a Civil Affairs office, but it was a really bad place to leave a baby. After that we went to eat a meal with the orphanage staff--boy was that not fun.
We leave for Gaungzhou on Monday--so happy about that. Tomorrow we pack for GZ.
Okay, enjoy the pictures.
