Our Story
In October 2005, we started our adoption journey. We met with Lucy Armistead, founder and executive director of Kentucky Adoption Services located in Owensboro, Kentucky. After meeting with Lucy, we began our adoption from China. We then had a homestudy done and a package given to us to complete our dossier for China. During this time we had doctors' appointments ordered certified copies of birth certificates and marriage licenses. Then we got local and state police background checks done. After that we had to get fingerprinted in Louisville, Kentucky, for a criminal background check. After all copies were received and fingerprints were done, we then requested our 1-600 petition. We received our approval December 6, 2005. We then met again with Lucy Armistead of Kentucky Adoption Services, with all the paperwork certified and authenticated and translated. This was called our dossier for China.
Our dossier then was sent to China (DTC) 12-22-05. The most important part is your log in date (LID), and ours is 1-13-06. When we started our adoption from China, referrals where taking 7-9 months. It has now been 27 months from our log in date, but this is by no means Kentucky Adoption Service's fault. China has chosen to slow down; it doesn't matter what agency you're with; all that matters is that very important log in date.
Many of you know Terry and I lost our son, Dylan, March 22, 2005. I can't thank my family enough for all their kindness through that very difficult time. I don't know what I would have done without my mother, my two sisters (Vicky & Donna), and my brother (Glenn)-- thank you. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are expecting our referral in the next few weeks and can't wait to see her face for the first time. My youngest sister, Donna, says I feel like I am doing this adoption with you and Terry. Well, Aunt Donna, you are. My sister Vicky has always said it's going to happen. Well, Aunt Vicky, you're right, it's going to happen. My brother Glenn never fails to ask how much longer; I can say soon now, Uncle Glenn. Guess what Wesley (AKA) Bubby--you're getting a sister. We want to thank our family and friends for being there for us. We also want to thank Chet and Dusty for this wonderful website; they are the ones making this site possible for are family and friends to enjoy. Thanks again, Chet and Dusty. We thank God daily for the blessing of this child for without him nothing would be possible. Follow along as we get ready to make the trip of a lifetime to China.
