Our Last Full Day in Guangzhou
We decided that instead of going to a Park, we'd go on the Subway, today!! When we told our Guide that's what we wanted to do...she looked very confused!!! I don't think any other group has ever asked to do that before?!! We don't have a subway (or fast trains) in our State.. so we thought it was worth checking out! We took the Subway to Beijing Road, another pedestrian shopping street. We went to Pizza Hut for lunch (expensive, but yummy!), and caught the Subway back to the Hotel.
We had a quiet afternoon, so Tari could have a sleep. And will catch up with our batch at The Cow and Bridge Thai Restaurant tonight. (Tip for people coming to Shamain Island: The Cow & Bridge has FANTASTIC Thai food!) We'll need to pack tonight, and be up quite early tomorrow, to fly to Shanghai mid morning.
I do feel a twinge of sadness that we are leaving our daughter's home province, but also feel some excitement that we are 10 days closer to being home, with all our family.
Love you, guys! 7 more days, and we'll be home!

GOODBYE GUANGZHOU - HELLO SHANGHAI!!!
I was impressed with my super packing skills, got our 2 bags packed in about an hour...without much help from Tari, who unpacked as quickly as I packed!!!
As Quick As I Packed, She UnpackedWe were up at 6am, to shower and finalize packing, before having our last Victory Buffet Breakfast. Our guide met us in the lobby at 830, and we caught a huge big tour bus to the airport (apparently, they thought even though there are only four families, we'd have lots of luggage!!) We checked in, and we were only 2kgs over weight...I was impressed!!! We are allowed an extra bag (for Tari), 10kgs, when we go home to Australia--I think we'll romp it in!
Tari went quite well on the flight. We flew out at 1130am, which is Tari's lunch time. We gave her some crackers to chew on, while we ascended, and when we flattened out, I gave her some rice cereal. When our food came, I gave her a couple of spoons of rice...then she puked all over herself and me!!!! I had spare clothes for Tari, so changed her...but I got to smell like spew, til we got to the Hotel!!! After Tari lost her lunch, she felt much better, and slept til we landed! (Can't you just see she's going to fit right into our family?!!! I can't go on holidays, without puking...so she MUST be my daughter!!!)
When we arrived in Shanghai, there wasn't anyone waiting for us!!! We phoned our Guide from GZ, and she said she'd phone our Guide in Shanghai. A few minutes later Isabel ran in, saying she was given the wrong flight details--she was in a different terminal! But wait, things didn't get any better...our bus had broken down! So we had to wait at the airport for another bus!!! The travel service shouted us to a cappacino while we waited!
While in Shanghai, we're staying in the Holiday Inn Vista. Its a very nice Hotel (typical of Holiday Inn), the rooms are considerably smaller than the Victory...and there's no bath! Oh No!!! I had a shower, and took Tari in with me; she sat on the floor and played in the water!!!
We decided along with a couple of others from our batch, to search out a supermarket...no joy. Could only find a "mini mart". We got immediate supplies, and will ask the guide to take us to a supermarket tomorrow. We did manage to find a "laundry"... but the woman wanted 215 Yuan (AUS$48) to wash a bag of clothes, that had just cost us 50 Yuan in Guangzhou!!!! I told her "Too expensive" and packed up our clothes and left... she was mad at me, and babbling in Chinese (I'm sure it wasn't very constructive!) Oh, and I didn't tell you how FRIGGIN cold it is, here, in Shanghai!!!! Hooly Dooly!!!! After the tropical weather in GZ, it's a very brisk chill, in Shanghai. We got scolded, because we didn't have a blanket or hat for Tari!!! Will definitely rug her up a bit more tomorrow!
So there you have it. Another day, in amazing China. Another day, to mark off the calender. Another day, closer to home.
Goodbye, Guangzhou!
