MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Yes...that dreaded day has come. The day that all parents who've adopted a child go through, in order to bring their child home. The Medical. On the most part, it was quite pathetic, really! Except the part where the four nurses pin your (screaming) child to the bed, stick a huge needle in her arm, and attempt to draw blood. Which takes an excruciating amount of time. And if you're really lucky, like one family in our batch...they have three goes at your screaming child, and still barely get a dribble of blood. Oh. And to make the whole excursion more entertaining, they did it at our baby's lunch time. Perfect.
I can say, that Tari proved once again that she is a trooper in every way. Yes, she screamed (that blood curdling scream, that can shatter crystal and peel wallpaper)--but once the task was done, she gave the four nurses, her "death stare" and settled very quickly with Mummy and a biscuit. Yes, Mummy cried. It was heart breaking. Thank the Lord, her vein popped right up, when they tied the rubber tube around her arm, and squeezed it really tight. It still seemed to take an eternity for actually get the blood to come out.
AUS$400 later. Six biscuits later. One distraught child later. And about 1.5 hours later...we left the torture chamber! I really am a bit miffed at how pathetic the whole ordeal was. They weighed her. Measured her. Checked her reflexes. Asked if she was sitting and walking. Then took blood. Please. How the heck can they see if she is really fit and healthy after that?!! They didn't even check her ears and eyes...although the Dr commented on how lovely Tari's eyes were!!!
Well, its done. Our last bit of official business. Our last bit of absurd amount of money paid.
We chilled in our room, all afternoon. Had a couple of families over to our (shoebox) room, for a baby playdate and "Mummy and Daddy pre dinner drink", then sought out, another non-English speaking restaurant for a mystery dinner!!! Once again, our dinner was divine, cheap and very entertaining!
Oh yeah. Daddy introduced Tari to chocolate last night. It's incredible how quickly a baby can work out what's in an unopened packet?!!!
